Wednesday Work Hack: What Assumptions Do You Need to Question?
Assumptions prevent us from considering new approaches and methods. To inject fresh thinking into your org, ask teams to identify assumptions about their industry, company, and daily work (i.e., restaurants serve food, employ servers, and have menus). From here, prompt people to choose three and then list as many reversals of those assumptions as possible (i.e., guests bring their own food; sell food for carry-out or delivery only, etc.) Finally, which reversals could be combined into a big idea? (Restaurants without servers… where menus exist online…and no food is served in-house.) Of these, which are disruptive ideas or efficient time-savers worth exploring?
